But here's how it's done, if it must be done.

Step 1: Install GTK+ or The GIMP software.

Step 2: Install gtkmm runtime.

Step 3: Add the following to your PATH variable: C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\bin

Step 4: Run BOTH the synfig studio and synfig installers.

If you have more problems add the following to your PATH: C:\Program Files\Synfig\bin

Either that or whatever folder you installed synfig into.

The portabel apps suite has GTK in a common folder on the poen drive for other OS apps that have been converted

(11:31:47) darco: it is likely because of my “strip out the bad things” pass that all comments go thru. At the moment, it is really stupid, anything between a < and a > is stripped out... (it's just using php's striptags function). I should really re-write it to be smarter (11:32:16) darco: as for a size limit, I really doubt that he is reaching it... IMO, workarounds for the DLL problems belong in the relevant bugs in the bug tracker, please post them there.

This is what I did:

1- First Install The gtkmm Libraries (These are not the same as the GTK+ that is required for software like The Gimp cause I had these in my computer already and it didn't work) As far as I know the GTKmm that you have to download from the Synfig site install additional things in the GTK directory from what I observed. 2- Run the Synfig Installer. 3- Run the Synfigstudio Installer. 4- Go to to My Computer (In the Windows Start Menu, not the shortcut on the desktop because if you do this what you will see is not My computer properties but the My Computer icon properties) and click it with the right mouse button. When the menu appears click on properties (What you see is the same as when you go to the Control Panel and double click the System icon). Click the Advanced tab and then the Environment Variables button at the bottom. In User variables add to the one named PATH a line that indicates the path to the GTK libraries. To do so click the PATH variable once to select it and then click the Edit button once. In the windows that appears there should be the word PATH in the top square that you will leave as is. What you will edit is the line in the second box that is called Variable value: Here you will add this line:

C:Program FilesCommon FilesGTK2.0bin

but if there is a previous value entered there such as Cqtbin (In my case this was there already because other software that was installed in my computer previously) you will not delete this to add the new line, you will add the new line at the end of this previous line by placing a semicolon after it and the line we gave you after the semicolon without any blank spaces as in the following example:

Cqtbin;C:Program FilesCommon FilesGTK2.0bin

5- Run the program and it should run fine now.
